Are you having issues keeping your basement dry, attractive, safe and healthy? If yes, your damp basement is a breeding ground for dangerous and unhealthy mold spores. Read this article to learn about mold remediation solutions to turn your unpleasant space into a pleasant and healthy living space.

When your basement is damp, its walls will stain. The air is humid and your basement smells dank and musty. But the worst part about having a damp basement is having dangerous levels of mold growth and excessive moisture.

Mold is very dangerous because breathing in mold spores can cause you and your family respiratory problems and health issues. Your basement being in this condition could also greatly devalue your home. To avoid this devastating side effect of mold and excessive moisture, you should utilize mold remediation solutions. Mold remediation solutions will help you eliminate mold and keep mold spores from coming back. Try the following mold remediation solutions to resolve your damp basement dilemma:

Dehumidifying

One solution for removing mold and moisture is to dehumidify your basement. This is a solution because mold requires at least 50% humidity to grow. By eliminating a high level of humidity in your basement, you lower the potential of your basement becoming a permanently inhospitable area to your home.

A mold remediation contractor can install an industrial strength-dehumidifying unit to your basement and a ventilation system to remove moisture and prevent high levels of mold from growing. The vent will move any excessive moisture in the air of your basement to the outside of your home.

Mold Removal

Another mold remediation solution you can utilize is mold removal. This mold remediation solution should be used with dehumidifying because dehumidifying will not be enough to remove existing mold growth.

A mold remediation specialist will seal off all mold affected areas of your basement to prevent mold spores from spreading and use a vacuum mold removal system and antimicrobial cleaning agents to kill mold in your basement. When all the mold colonies have been eliminated, the specialist will be able to paint over the walls, ceiling and flooring with an antimicrobial sealing to help prevent future mold growth. The worst type of mold to have in your basement is invisible mold. Your specialist will use specialized technology to discover and remove this type of mold.

Mold Prevention

Lastly, you can return your damp basement back to a dry, attractive, safe and healthy one by keeping air constantly moving in your basement. This can be done with central air conditioning or a fan. Make sure the specialist checks for mold growth behind any furniture and storage. All leaks and spills should be cleaned up quickly so moisture will not seep into the floor and encourage mold to grow.

How much do you know about protecting yourself from lead-based paint hazards? If you need to get more familiar with lead safety, Advance Mold Remediation is here to get you in the know. Read now to get more familiar.

It is always crucial to disclose information about lead-based paint hazards when you have tenants renting, not just for the health of tenants but for you as a landlord to avoid violating federal laws.

The U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), created a disclosure rule under the Residential Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Act that made sellers and landlords of residential housing built before 1978 to disclose to both purchasers and tenants the presence of known lead-based paint hazards or lack of knowledge of lead hazards.

The disclosure, you as a landlord must provide, includes a lead hazard information pamphlets, a standard warning statement in the lease on the dangers of lead- based paint and include disclosure and acknowledgment language in the lease of property.

For any landlord that does not provide required lead hazard information and lead hazard disclosures, the EPA will propose a penalty for alleged violations after giving after a landlord has the opportunity to respond to complaints. Under the Disclosure Rule, the statutory maximum penalty for violations of the Disclosure Rule is $11,000 per violation.

The EPA has intent to cooperate with federal, state and local agencies to protect tenants and homeowners from the health risks of lead-based paint.

Lead based paint is very dangerous for all building occupants. With high blood levels, tenants and homeowners can suffer permanent damage to the nervous system and widespread health problems. Some of these health problems include reduced intelligence, short attention span, hearing loss, stunted growth, behavioral difficulties and reading and learning problems. The most vulnerable group to lead-base paint hazards are young children because it affects their nervous systems while they are still developing.

Protect your property from lead based paint hazards, hire Advance Mold Remediation.

Advance Mold Remediation, a mold remediation company, can inspect your home for mold. If mold is present, we can safely do a mold cleanup. Excess mold growth is extremely dangerous. Let Advance Mold Remediation protect your property and health from mold today.

Have you heard about Virginia deregulating mold inspection? If you have not heard, Advance Mold Remediation is here to give you all the details you will need to know about how these deregulations could affect you. Read now for details.

Recently the Virginia legislature approved Governor Bob McDonnell’s plan to streamline government by eliminating needless licensing and regulatory requirements. The bill that was approved deregulates mold remediators and mold inspectors.

The bill that was proposed in January is expected to go into effect July 1st. The state of Virginia feels that deregulating will help remediators and mold inspectors to be better served because they will no longer be regulated by the state.

Previously, the Virginia Board for Asbestos, Lead, Mold and Home Inspectors regulated the licensure of mold inspectors and mold remediators from 1993 to the present.

The U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not see a need to regulate mold remediation residential homes. By EPA standards, Virginia over regulates.

The bill that will take effect July 1st includes eliminating two state agencies, merging seven state agencies into others, eliminating 19 boards and commissions, and merging 23 boards and commissions to form 11 boards and commissions.

Virginia hopes by deregulating mold inspection, the state can cut government in a tough economy where families and businesses alike are struggling to make ends meet.

In New York City it is now easier than ever for people to file lawsuits based on claims that they developed illnesses from being exposed to mold. A New York appeals court cleared the way for more filing of lawsuits against mold exposure.

When people are exposed to mold they can suffer from dizziness, congestion, rashes and other dangerous symptoms such as respiratory complications.

The court is now allowing plaintiffs to use scientific evidence that mold caused them injuries.

Mold can find its way into indoor environments through cracks in floors, damp areas and up dumbwaiter shafts. There is no such thing as acceptable indoor level of mold.

If a plaintiff presents proof that exposure to molds has occurred, they can use it as evidence. This was not always possible in the courtroom because of a case called Fraser dismissed a plaintiff’s claims for personal injuries caused by mold exposure.

But since Cornell V. 360 W. 51st street plaintiff provided evidence that her illnesses were resolved after the apartment she lived in mold was cleaned up and a sampling of aspergillus/penicillum, stachbotrys and chateoium proved mold did exist in her apartment, people have the right to file lawsuits for mold exposure injuries.

As for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) budget, the State Indoor Radon Grant (SIRG) program would be eliminated. EPA budget for radon would drop $2 million.

Yes, the radon program is important because it has protected human health for over 23 years through the SIRG funding but the President is aiming to eliminate it to support states in establishing their own programs to protect human health without SIRG. The Republican-led house of representatives wants more cuts.

Currently, the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) is trying to restore federal funding to fight against lead paint and asthma by gaining support from key members of Congress. Although, a scientific panel reports lead in older homes harms children at much lowers levels than previously believed.

The goal of EPA is to discover what programs are best serving its purpose and mission.

To protect your property from indoor environment risk, hire Advance Mold Remediation.

Advance Mold Remediation, a mold remediation company, can inspect your home for mold. If mold is present, we can safely do a mold cleanup. Excess mold growth is extremely dangerous. Let Advance Mold Remediation protect your property and health from mold today.

Did you know mold could compromise your health? If yes, do you know how mold can compromise your health? If you don’t know the details, we are here to inform you and tell you when you need mold remediation services.

When mold begins to grow in your home, it can cause numerous health problems for you. By knowing the warning signs of mold growth, you can plan to get mold testing and cleanup in order to stop mold problems.

How Does Mold Grow

Mold spores are naturally in the air. They cannot multiply until they are able to land on damp surfaces. Mold can grow virtually anywhere.

Some health concerns mold can have on your body are respiratory problems. If your home quality of air is not the healthiest, mold could be the culprit.

Living or working in a mold-infested building significantly increases your risk of forming a respiratory disorder from stachybotrys and black mold.

Some symptoms from mold exposure are sneezing, coughing, wheezing, redness of the eyes, and skin rashes. The severity of these reactions depends on the concentration and type of mold present.

If you notice a negative change in the indoor quality of your breathing, you should have your building tested for mold.

Advance Mold Remediation, a mold remediation company, can test your air for mold. If mold is present, we can safely do a mold cleanup. Excess mold growth is extremely dangerous. Let Advance Mold Remediation protect your property and health from mold today.

Do you know how to detect dangerous mold in your home? If you are not sure we have for you three helpful tips for mold detection in your home.

Mold is a member of the fungi family. It can grow anywhere at anytime in your home. Mold produces spores, which become airborne and later settle and germinate on different surfaces in your home. Mold thrives especially on timber, cotton, wool, leather, paper and cardboard.

The most common reason mold grows in the home is excessive moisture. Moisture can come from leaking water and mold starts to grow because poor ventilation prevents the moisture from being removed. The common home areas for mold are kitchens, bathrooms, basements and attics.

Mold can cause irritation to your skin, itchy eyes, respiratory difficulties and illness. This is why it is so important to detect and eradicate mold early in its growth. Here are three ways to detect mold:

How To Search For Mold

Mold can be black, green, grey or white. Mold often looks like furry patches on surfaces such as external walls and tiles that have been damp or wet. Mold detection inspections should be completed every few months to uncover any problems before the mold gets out of control. For example, you should check for leaks and damp area before the cold seasons happen. The cold seasons are often the perfect times for mold to grow.

Know How Mold Smells

Mold has a distinctive musty smell as it feeds off surfaces to grow. You should inspect your home for mold by looking under carpets, behind furniture, behind wallpaper and behind baseboards. These areas are feeding grounds for toxic mold.

Invisible Mold

Some mold cannot be detected with the naked eye, such as microscopic mold. You can detect visible mold if you are suffering frequently from throat and eye irritation. Invisible mold is the most hazardous type of mold because physical discomfort is the only tell tale sign. You will need a professional mold inspector to identify if you have mold growth.

To keep your family and home definitely safe, hire Advance Mold Remediation.

At the 6th International Scientific Conference on Bioaerosols, Fungi, Bacteria, Mycotoxins in Indoor & Outdoor Environments & Human Health, there was a professional discussion on diagnostic mold testing. This article will provide you information about the mold testing and why it is important to test.

The Purpose of Mold Testing

Diagnostic mold testing is completed to discover the locations where mold has thrived so that mitigation can be done. The following are a few diagnostic testing done to discover and remove mold:

Visual Observation of Water Damage

When a building has a history of water damage, a visual observation testing is necessary. Anything that is wet for several days at room temperatures is likely to suffer from mold. It is important to conduct this type of testing because anything overlooked could result in dangerous mold growth and damage. For example, metal studs and bottom plates that hold water can make drywall become damp and mold can grow on it.

Airborne Testing

This type of mold testing is important because it can confirm elevated mold spore levels. When a room suffers from water damage for a long period of time, the room gets a mold smell. Airborne sampling can often underestimate the levels of mold present on damaged property. When in doubt, tape lift samples to suspect the surfaces of the damage area to be more accurate with diagnoses.

Bulk Sampling

When you sample a surface for mold, place the sample directly under a microscope for examination. This is very useful for testing HVAC duct liner because visual observation is not enough to confirm where mold is growing and at the rate it is growing.

Moisture Meters and Infrared Thermography

When you suspect certain materials are wet, moisture meters and infrared thermography can come in handy because they can pinpoint wet areas as well as where mold is likely to grow.

Wall Spore Traps

A great way to detect mold is through sampling the air inside a wall cavity. Using wall spore traps you can discover hidden mold in walls.

Mold Dog

A new method of mold detection is using dogs to locate hidden mold growth after water damage has occurred and property has dried. This testing is still developing for accuracy.

Advance Mold Remediation is a service-oriented corporation dedicated to thorough, efficient analysis and treatment anywhere mold could be.
